Frequently asked questions
What is VagusCalm?
VagusCalm is a tactile grounding app that turns your phone into a calm, heartbeat-like vibration you can feel in your hand. Many people find a slow, steady rhythm soothing in moments of panic, anxiety, stress or restlessness. It works 100% offline, collects no data and has no subscription.
How is this different from breathing or meditation apps?
Breathing and meditation apps ask you to actively do something — follow instructions, control your breath, focus your mind. VagusCalm asks nothing of you. You simply hold your phone (or put it under your pillow) and feel a slow, steady pulse. That makes it a gentle option for moments when instructions feel like too much.
What does the vibration feel like?
Like a slow, calm heartbeat in your hand. You can choose the rhythm that feels safest for you — from 30 to 60 beats per minute in Classic Mode — or build a personalized session that gradually changes pace over a chosen duration.
Does VagusCalm work without internet?
Yes. VagusCalm works 100% offline, requires no account and collects no data. It is always ready, even in airplane mode.
Is VagusCalm a medical product?
No. VagusCalm is a wellness tool for relaxation and grounding. It is not a medical device, does not diagnose or treat any condition, and is not a substitute for professional care.
Is VagusCalm free?
VagusCalm is a one-time purchase for the price of a coffee. The app has no subscriptions and no ads. You can check the current price and any offers directly on the App Store or Google Play page.
Can I use VagusCalm in public without anyone noticing?
Yes — that is one of its core design goals. The app uses no audio, and in your hand or pocket the vibration is barely perceptible to anyone else. From the outside, it looks like you are simply holding your phone.
Can I use it while falling asleep?
Many people do. On Android, lock the screen and the pulse keeps going; on iOS, use the app's built-in screen-lock to turn the display black. Then place the phone under your pillow or next to you. Sessions Mode lets you set a fixed duration so it ends on its own.
Is the vibration loud?
The pulse is designed to be felt, not heard. On a table it may buzz audibly — in your hand, pocket or under a pillow it stays quiet and discreet.
What is a 'vagus nerve reset'?
It is a popular, informal term for helping your nervous system shift out of a stress state back toward calm. The vagus nerve plays a central role in that shift. VagusCalm approaches this with a tactile cue of safety: a slow, steady, heartbeat-like rhythm. You can read more on our vagus nerve guide.
Does VagusCalm treat anxiety, PTSD or panic disorder?
No. VagusCalm is a wellness and grounding tool, not a treatment. It can be a comforting companion alongside whatever support works for you, but it does not diagnose, treat or cure any condition. If you are struggling, please reach out to a healthcare professional.
Why touch instead of audio?
Touch is private, works in loud environments, doesn't compete with conversations or music, and doesn't require headphones. For many people a physical sensation is also easier to focus on than a sound when their mind is racing.
Does the app collect any data?
No. VagusCalm requires no account, has no tracking and works fully offline. We cannot see how, when or whether you use it — by design.
